Privacy Policy

The short version

  • There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
  • Your name, bookmarks and reading progress stay on your phone. We never receive them.
  • The only thing the app fetches from the internet is the recitation audio, from Quran.com. If you download it for offline listening, it is saved on your phone.
  • The optional $1 support payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google.

This policy explains how the Scroll the Quran: With Meaning app (“the app”) and this website, scrollthequran.app, handle your information. The app is made by Zain Rasheed (“we”, “us”).

Information we collect

We do not collect any personal information through the app. The app has no sign-up, no login and no servers of ours that it reports to. It contains no advertising and no analytics or crash-reporting tools.

Information kept on your device

To work, the app saves a few things in its own storage on your phone. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else:

  • Your name, if you choose to enter one. It is used only for the greeting when you open the app.
  • Your reading: the ayah you stopped on, your recent places, bookmarks, Khatm progress and streak.
  • Your settings: language, theme, text size, recitation, screen and reminder preferences.
  • A supporter badge, if you have made the optional support payment.
  • Downloaded recitation, if you choose to save it for offline listening.

The app's widgets, on the iPhone lock screen and the Android home screen, read your progress from this same on-device storage. You can change or clear your name in Settings at any time. Deleting the app removes everything it has stored.

Recitation audio

The Quran text, translations and commentary are built into the app and work offline. The recitation is streamed from Quran Foundation's audio server (verses.quran.com). As with any internet request, that server receives your device's IP address and the audio file being requested. No other information is sent. Quran Foundation's handling of that request is covered by its own privacy policy.

You can also download the recitation, for one surah or the whole Quran, to listen without internet. The audio files come from the same server, in the same way, and are saved in the app's storage on your phone. You can remove them in Settings → Listen offline, and deleting the app removes them too.

To tell you when the recitation can't play, the app checks whether your phone is connected to the internet. This check happens on your phone, and nothing about it is sent anywhere.

Reminders

If you turn on the daily reading reminder, the app asks for permission to send notifications. Reminders are scheduled on your phone itself; we do not run a notification server and we receive no device tokens. You can turn reminders off in the app's Settings or in your phone's settings.

The optional $1 support

Everything in the app is free. If you choose to support it, the payment is processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their terms and privacy policies. We never see your name, email or payment details. The store only tells the app that the purchase succeeded, so it can say thank you. Apple and Google send us standard sales reports, which do not identify you.

Sharing

Share cards, for an ayah or your streak, are made on your phone. They leave your device only when you choose where to send them using your phone's share sheet.

This website

scrollthequran.app uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts or fonts. If you use the light/dark switch, your choice is saved in your own browser and never sent to us, and so is a note that you've seen the opening Bismillah, so it shows only once. The recitation sample on the home page plays only when you tap it, and is served from this website itself. Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, time and page requested) for a short time to keep the site secure and working. We do not use them to identify anyone.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages. Because we collect no personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights

Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, export or delete. Everything the app stores is on your device and under your control. If you email us, we use your message only to reply, and we delete it on request.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever starts handling information differently, we will update this page and the date at the top before that version of the app is released.
